Funidata's Sisu SIS has been included in Gartner's Magic Quadrant alongside industry giants

The Sisu Student Information System, developed by the Finnish company Funidata, has been selected for inclusion in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Higher Education SaaS Student Information Systems. This selection places the Finnish system among the most closely followed international assessments in the technology sector, which evaluates key players in the field globally.

A rare recognition for Finnish higher education technology

Sisu is a solution developed in Finland that has now been selected for inclusion in a major international comparison in the sector. Finnish-developed software has only rarely been included in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant evaluations. From this perspective, Sisu’s selection for the 2026 comparison represents a significant recognition of Finnish higher education technology.

The Magic Quadrant selection places Sisu alongside global players such as Workday and Ellucian. The report is one of the most closely followed analyses in the technology sector and is widely used, particularly to support procurement decisions by large organisations. Gartner’s analyses are also closely monitored in the Finnish and European higher education sectors.

Collaborative model has proven its effectiveness

Gartner places Sisu in the so-called Niche Player category. This means that the solution is considered as strong and well suited, particularly in its own target market. At the same time, it has significant untapped potential in international markets.

The assessment highlights Sisu’s strengths, particularly its deep customer understanding, close collaboration with higher education institutions, and ability to meet European regulatory and process requirements. At the same time, Gartner identifies clear areas for development that support Sisu’s opportunities for international expansion.

Opportunities in Finland and selected markets

From Funidata’s perspective, the selection strengthens the company’s position as an alternative to traditional Student Information Systems in Finland and, where relevant, more broadly in Europe as well as in selected international markets, such as Africa.

Sisu was developed to meet the needs of Finnish universities, but its architecture and operating model also support use in other countries. At the same time, it positions itself as an alternative to traditional US Student Information Systems in selected international markets.

Visibility in the Magic Quadrant supports Sisu’s position in higher education tenders, where Gartner’s assessments are often used as part of the vendor selection process. This strengthens Sisu’s competitiveness.
